What is Kite Skiing- Explained

Air Padre Describes - What is Kite Skiing

Kite Skiing in the Snow

Kite Skiing (commonly referred to as snowkiting and kite snow skiing) is a variation of the sport that involves using a power kite or inflatable kite to pull you around on two snow skis. Over the years, kite skiing has reached new heights, as people are now jumping extreme heights and for long periods of time off. It can be done in wide open snow fields, on hillsides, or mountain tops as long as there is snow on the ground and a steady breeze above. The kites have enough power to pull you around at amazing speeds, jump hundreds of feet, or even climb up mountain faces like a chairlift!

The kites used are very similar to ones for kitesurfing in the water, or kite buggying on land. A harness, kite, skis, helmets and other protective gear are commonly used. Lessons are highly recommended to get into this aspect of the sport safely. Because you are being pulled across the ground, there is an increased possibility of hurting yourself on the hard earth. Hard packed snow, ice, trees, and rocks all pose a constant danger, so please first take lessons to learn how to properly fly the powerful kites.
