Mexican Shrimp Boat Washed on South Padre
September 7th, 2010 - Tropical Storm Hermine makes landfall in north Mexico, following a similar path to Hurricane Alex just weeks before. The storm had maximum winds of 60 mph, which whipped directly across South Padre Island over night. Hermine brought a few days of severe weather, including wind and rain to the island. There have been no physical damage to businesses, houses, or any other establishments on the island.
Even though the tropical storm didn't create any damage on the island, a few mexican scrimp boats washed ashore the beaches on South Padre. Three shrimping boats were found on the shoreline the next morning after Hermine hit land. 2 boats are now sitting aground at the south end of the island in Isla Blanca Park, next to the jetties. The other shrimping vessel is beached one mile north of city beach access 6. See the photos below!
In addition to the heavy rain brought by Tropical Storm Hermine, steady winds followed for several days after the storm, allowing the Air Padre team to get creative with some kitesurfing and surf sessions. Check out the kiteboarding photos of the guys riding in front of the new boat backdrops below.
