Air Padre now has a brand new fleet of SUPs and we are offering SUP lessons as well as SUP rentals everyday on South Padre this summer! Stand Up Paddleboarding (aka 'SUP') is a brand new water sport that is taking the nation by storm. SUP is a fun and easy sport for all levels, and South Padre Island is a superb place to learn and practice. While also being a fun sport for all, stand up paddleboarding provides a great 'core' workout that you don't even know is going on!
Stand Up Paddleboards are generally over 11' long, 30' wide, and several inches thick, and constructed from epoxy or fiberglass. The oversized surfboards make for a easy platform to balance on. Stand up paddles are made from fiberglass, carbon, or wood with a handle on one end and a blade on the other.
SUP can be very fun, cool and easy for all beginners. People of all ages and physical abilities can easily stand up on the paddlesurf boards. Just standing on the boards improves balance skills, as well as makes for a great physical workout. Your arms, legs, and mid-section all get worked as you cruise the shallow waters with no need for gasoline. For those experienced surfers, SUPs can also be used in the waves.
Stand Up Paddleboard lessons are now available 7 Days a week at Air Padre. All levels and abilities are welcome to join, and all gear is included in the lesson! No reservations required, just show up and stand up. If the waves are too large or choppy, then the SUP class will move to the South Flats behind the convention center where the bay water is very flat.
Stand up paddleboard rentals are available everyday at Air Padre Kiteboarding. We have a fleet of SUPs ready to be rented for starting at $25/ hour! All SUPs are beginner friendly and come equipped with a paddle. Stop by Air Padre's Shop and you can launch in the bay from right behind the shop at our own private boat docks.
