The Community behind Kiteboarding

Air Padre Illustrates how friendships form through the sport

Kiteboarding Community on South Padre Island, Texas Beaches

In every sport you have the people behind the sport; and kiteboarding is no different. From promoters, pro riders, local shops, casual riders, and even kitesurfing families, they are all fully involved and support the sport. No matter where these people came from, or what they did for a living, each person is a part of this kiteboarding community. This is one of the few sports where people really feel like they belong to the kiting family.

The kiteboarding community is a group of friends that love the sport and want to see the sport spread successfully. We help each other out with our gear, with simply landing or launching your kite, rides to the beach, or even going out and grabbing some food after a session. They are willing to give tips, tricks, and advise to anyone willing to listen. Kiteboarders are among some of the most friendly people around, and anyone will tell you the same. Since the sport is relatively new, everyone is still learning. So nobody feels like they are better than you, and everybody wants to see you advance with every session.

Although the kiting scene is one of the most laid back, there is also the professional side. Kiters all over the world will always emphasize safety, safety, SAFTEY!! The safest way to kite in any new location is always know where the local kite shop is. Ask them about local safety hazards, rules, and approved kiting locations. If you want to get into the sport, all kiters will recommend getting kiteboarding lessons. Lessons are the fastest and safest way to learn how to kiteboard. Check to make sure that the shop you are looking at has certified instructions.

South Padre Island is one of the best kiteboarding destinations for any level of rider. Whether you are a beginner or expert, we have the waves to shred or the glass smooth water to try the latest tricks. With good food, great weather and amazing wind, SPI is the place to be for kiting. South Padre offers two large beaches for kiters to launch out of if the are looking for flat water, or a 5-15 mile stretch of oceanside beach to ride downwind. Even better yet, South Padre Island is home to Air Padre Kiteboarding. Offering Basic to advanced kiteboarding lessons, kite equipment rentals, kite repair, and all the trim and fixings of a kite shop with a large selection of kites, boards harnesses, and other kite gear and swag! The Air Padre team is always willing to help any kiter or potential kiter with questions no matter how off the wall it may seem. The trained and certified team will can get you kiting, and help you immerse yourself in the community behind the kites.
