The Jettys- Advanced kiteboarding in the surf of the gulf of Mexico, good for SE winds, use extra caution if riding with any North wind and avoid offshore winds. South Flats- Beginner through advanced launch with plenty of flat sand for setup, good for all winds. The shallow water is very flat with NE, E, and SE winds. If your not staying up wind the water is shallow enough to walk back, rather than swimming. Beginners use caution with onshore winds (NW, W, and SW). There is a wind shadow from the convention center with a SE, E wind but it smoothes out as you get 1/2 mile out or so. This is a County Park with daily, monthly and yearly passes sold (only during the summer, most months the booth is unmanned) North Flats- Best place to kiteboard, especially for beginners, or those working through a new move. Especially if you can get out early or on a slow day. However, often times it is so packed with kiters and windsurfers that it can be unnerving. Similar to the S. Flats with more room and no wind shadow. Be sure to rig up and kiteboard downwind of windsurfers. This is private property and requires the purchase of an annual pass through South Padre Island Windsurfing Association, cost is less than $20. Holly Beach- An advanced kiteboarding area with barbed wire, cactus, and other hazardous debris along the shore. Definitely not the place to lose control of a kite. Use extreme caution. For the expert rider offers great wind if the Island has a SE wind that is too low. It is always blowing at Holly. Kiteboarding Saftey Rules for South Padre Island- Launching
